A Modern Kitchen Refresh in Jacksonville’s San Pablo Area Case Study

The Starting Point: A Dated but Functional Kitchen

Our client’s existing kitchen wasn’t dysfunctional; it was simply dated.

The layout worked well for her needs, and she wanted to keep it intact. However, the finishes were clearly from another era:

  • Raised panel white cabinetry
  • Older-style granite countertops
  • Traditional door profiles
  • Standard backsplash

The kitchen felt older, primarily because of the raised panel cabinet doors and the outdated granite. While everything was in working order, the overall aesthetic didn’t reflect the fresh, modern look she wanted.

Her goal? Modernize the space while keeping the same layout.

Kitchen remodel before and after

The Design Vision: Clean, Elevated & Slightly Unique

From the beginning, this project was straightforward. After reviewing the design, the client signed quickly and confidently.

Here’s what we changed:

Cabinet Upgrade: Raised Panel to Shaker

One of the most impactful changes was swapping out the raised-panel cabinet doors for flat-panel shaker doors.

Shaker cabinets are a popular modern choice because they offer:

  • Clean lines
  • Timeless appeal
  • Versatility across design styles

The new cabinet color, “Moccasin,” is a creamy, warm neutral that brightens the kitchen while still feeling sophisticated. In certain lighting it reads soft and warm, a subtle but meaningful upgrade from the previous white cabinetry.

Countertop Upgrade: Granite to Pompeii Quartz

The existing granite countertops were one of the biggest contributors to the dated feel.

We replaced them with Pompeii quartz countertops, which immediately elevated the space with:

  • A cleaner, more contemporary look
  • Improved durability
  • Easier maintenance

Quartz provides a sleek finish that pairs beautifully with shaker cabinetry and modern backsplashes.

A Standout Backsplash

While the layout remained the same, we incorporated thoughtful storage elements to improve functionality:

  • Tall pantry cabinets for larger appliance storage
  • Cabinet pull-outs
  • A small end cabinet at the peninsula — perfect for recipe books or smaller items

These subtle additions increased usable storage without changing the kitchen’s footprint.

Appliance Updates

  • The homeowner also upgraded several appliances, including:

    • New cooktop
    • New microwave
    • New double oven

While she sourced the appliances herself, our team installed everything except the gas connection for the cooktop (which must be completed by a licensed gas contractor).

Project Timeline & Coordination

The project began in June 2025 and was completed in approximately six weeks.

There was a temporary delay due to a cooktop backorder. Since cooktops require precise countertop templating and cutting, we must have the physical appliance on-site to ensure accurate measurements before final installation.

At Corbella, we work closely with licensed subcontractors, including:

  • Licensed plumbers
  • Licensed electricians
  • Professional countertop installers

This ensures every installation is safe, precise, and up to code.

What Makes This Project Special

This kitchen didn’t require construction or structural changes. Instead, it demonstrates how:

  • Modern cabinetry styles
  • Updated countertop materials
  • Unique but tasteful backsplash selections can completely refresh a space.

The result is a kitchen that feels brighter, cleaner, and far more current,  all while maintaining a layout the homeowner already loved.
