Case Study: A Full Kitchen Transformation in Jacksonville, FL

The Vision

When our clients came to us, they weren’t looking for a simple refresh; they wanted a kitchen that felt bigger, brighter, and built for everyday life. The existing space had an older, more closed-off layout and finishes that no longer matched the way their family used the home (especially with kids in the mix).

Their goal was clear: open the kitchen up, make it more functional, and create a space that truly feels like the heart of the home.

What They Wanted From Their New Kitchen

From our earliest conversations, we aligned the remodel around a few key priorities:

  • A more open layout – They wanted to remove a wall and create a better flow so the kitchen felt connected to the surrounding living space.
  • A large island that anchors the room – A big island was a must-have; more prep space, more seating, and a central gathering spot for family and friends.
  • A standout design feature – They also wanted to add a hood that didn’t just function well; it needed to look incredible. We designed the hood as an accent piece with a contrasting finish to make it a focal point of the entire kitchen.
  • Durable, family-friendly finishes – Because this is a high-use kitchen, we guided them toward quartz countertops, a durable, low-maintenance surface that holds up beautifully over time.

Key Considerations We Planned For

Every full kitchen remodel has moving parts. In this project, there were several details that required smart sequencing and careful coordination to get the “finished” look our clients wanted.

Preserving the existing flooring

Our clients wanted to keep their existing flooring, and that decision often comes with an important reality: in many homes, there is no flooring installed beneath old cabinetry. Once we began demolition and changed the kitchen footprint, we needed to coordinate flooring repairs to ensure no exposed gaps or unfinished sections remained visible.

We worked with our clients to ensure the repaired areas blended into the new layout, resulting in a cohesive, intentional final result.

Getting the quartz veining just right

Our clients were particular about the veining pattern in their quartz, and we love that, because those details matter. Before anything was cut, we worked with our fabricator to refine the slab layout so the veining direction and placement looked balanced and intentional throughout the space.

Installing a full-height quartz backsplash

Instead of tile, our clients chose a full-height backsplash made from the same quartz as the countertops. This creates a clean, seamless, elevated look, but it also adds an extra step to the timeline.

Full-height slab backsplash templating happens only after the countertops are installed, so we scheduled that process accordingly to keep the project moving smoothly while delivering the premium finish they wanted.

What We Delivered

A kitchen layout that finally fit the way they live

We removed the wall that closed off the space and created an open-concept kitchen with better flow, more room to move, and a layout that feels dramatically larger.

An island-centered kitchen with relocated plumbing

To support the new open footprint, we moved the sink plumbing from the old knee wall to the island. That allowed us to fully open the kitchen while keeping the space highly functional, and it gave them the large island they had been dreaming of.

Brighter, cleaner lighting

We removed the old lighting and installed recessed can lights to modernize the space, brighten the kitchen, and create a cleaner ceiling line.

Premium surfaces with thoughtful detail

  • Quartz countertops selected for durability and everyday practicality
  • A slab layout refined before fabrication to ensure the veining looked right
  • Full-height quartz backsplash installed for a seamless, high-end finish

A custom accent hood that became the focal point

We designed the hood to stand out with a contrasting finish, a detail that instantly elevates the entire kitchen and gives it a true custom feel.

Fixtures, Appliances, and Installation

We handled purchasing and coordination for the core kitchen build-out, including cabinetry, countertops, sinks, faucets, and hardware. Our clients typically purchase their appliances, and we help make sure those choices align with the kitchen design and installation requirements.

For certain premium appliance brands, certified installation is required to maintain warranties, so we plan for that early and coordinate installation steps accordingly.

Communication and Timeline

This project included a thorough design and decision phase while our clients finalized their vision and approved selections. Once construction began, the remodel moved efficiently and was completed in approximately 8 weeks.

Our communication is straightforward:

  • During active construction, we communicate daily

  • During slower phases, we let our clients know what’s happening next and when the next phase will begin

The Result

The finished kitchen is brighter, more open, and centered around the way our clients actually live. Between the expanded layout, island-centered design, modern lighting, quartz surfaces, and statement hood, this remodel delivered a complete transformation; one that feels functional, elevated, and truly custom.

What to Expect With a Kitchen Remodel With Corbella Kitchen & Bath

If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen, here’s what the process typically looks like when you work with us:

Consultation + in-home measure

We start by learning what you want to change: layout, function, storage, finishes, and what isn’t working in your current kitchen.

Design + selections

Next, we create the initial design and guide you through selecting the finishes that bring your kitchen to life:

  • cabinetry style and color
  • countertops and backsplash approach
  • sink, faucet, and hardware
  • specialty details like hoods and lighting

Because cabinetry often has the longest lead time, we prioritize finalizing cabinet selections early.

Final approvals before construction begins

Before we start the build, we make sure designs and selections are approved so expectations are clear and the project can move efficiently.

Build scheduling around key deliveries

We schedule construction around major delivery dates (especially cabinetry) to keep the project moving and reduce downtime.

Consistent communication throughout the build

During active phases, we stay in touch daily. If there’s a slower phase (templating, specialty installs, etc.), you’ll know what’s happening and what comes next.

A finished kitchen that feels intentional

From layout changes to final details, we sequence the project carefully so the end result feels cohesive, designed, and built to last.
