A Tuscan-Style Kitchen Remodel in Southside Jacksonville

At Corbella Kitchen & Bath, many kitchen remodels begin with homeowners who love their space but know it no longer fits their needs. This kitchen renovation in the Southside area of Jacksonville is a perfect example.

The homeowners had a kitchen with a very traditional 90s Tuscan-inspired design, complete with dark finishes and limited functionality. While the kitchen still worked, it felt outdated and lacked the storage and layout improvements they wanted for everyday living.

By updating the cabinetry, flooring, countertops, and layout, we helped transform the space into a kitchen that feels bright, modern, and much more functional.

The Starting Point: A Dark, Tuscan-Style Kitchen

Before the remodel, the kitchen reflected many of the design trends common in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The space featured:

  • Dark walnut cabinetry
  • Linoleum flooring in brown tones
  • Small white tile countertops with a wood edge
  • A matching tile backsplash that included decorative fruit tiles
  • A traditional pantry closet
  • A stationary island paired with a roll-away storage cabinet to add extra space

The roll-away cabinet had been added simply because the island alone didn’t provide enough storage or functionality. While this solution worked temporarily, it made the kitchen feel cluttered and disjointed.

The homeowners wanted to modernize the space, create better flow, and make room for features that matched their daily routines.

The Design Vision: Brighter, More Functional, and Full of Personality

From the beginning, the homeowners knew they wanted their new kitchen to be both practical and visually interesting.

Their design priorities included:

  • Increasing pantry and storage space
  • Improving the overall kitchen flow
  • Creating a dedicated coffee station
  • Lightening up the cabinetry
  • Adding a unique flooring element that stood out

Rather than choosing purely neutral finishes, the homeowners wanted design choices that reflected their personality and made the space feel more unique.

Layout Changes: Relocating the Refrigerator and Pantry

One of the most impactful changes in the remodel involved reorganizing the kitchen layout.

The refrigerator and pantry were essentially swapped, which allowed the design to better utilize the available space. By relocating the refrigerator, the team was able to create a dedicated coffee bar area where the homeowners could store coffee equipment and supplies.

This change improved the flow of the kitchen and created a space specifically designed for the homeowners’ morning routine.

A New Island That Replaced the Roll-Away Cabinet

The original kitchen relied on a combination of a stationary island and a separate roll-away storage cabinet to provide enough workspace and storage.

During the remodel, Corbella designed a larger, fully integrated island that incorporated the storage previously provided by both pieces.

Because the island now provides ample storage and prep space, the roll-away cabinet was no longer necessary. The new island creates a cleaner layout and helps the kitchen feel more cohesive.

Updated Cabinetry and Storage Features

Another major improvement was updating the cabinetry.

The original dark walnut cabinets were replaced with bright shaker-style cabinetry, helping the kitchen feel significantly lighter and more open.

Several storage upgrades were also incorporated into the design, including:

  • A Lazy Susan corner cabinet for easier access
  • Deep drawers for pots and pans between the refrigerator and stove
  • Expanded pantry storage

The cabinetry was also extended higher, eliminating the bulky drywall space that previously existed above the cabinets and creating a more finished look.

New Countertops and Sink

The outdated tiled countertops were replaced with 3 cm Pompeii quartz countertops, which provide a cleaner, more modern surface that is both durable and easy to maintain.

The sink was also upgraded from a double-basin divided sink to a large single-basin undermount stainless steel sink, providing more space for washing dishes and larger cookware.

A Bold Patterned Tile Floor

One of the most striking design features in the new kitchen is the flooring.

The homeowners wanted something unique and expressive, so they selected a patterned tile floor that immediately draws attention and adds character to the space.

When the tile was pulled out in the showroom, the homeowner knew right away that it was the right choice. While it was one of the more expensive design elements in the project, they loved how it brought personality and visual interest into the kitchen.

Project Timeline

The homeowners signed their project agreement in April 2025, with construction beginning in July 2025.

The full remodel was completed in approximately eight weeks, making it an efficient transformation that delivered both visual and functional improvements.

Why the Homeowners Chose Corbella Kitchen & Bath

Before starting the remodel, the homeowners researched several options.

Ultimately, they chose Corbella Kitchen & Bath because of:

  • Clear communication throughout the process
  • A strong estimate and planning process
  • Confidence in the design and material selections

The team worked closely with the homeowners to ensure the final design reflected both their functional needs and personal style.

The Final Result

The finished kitchen is a dramatic transformation from the dark, Tuscan-style space that once existed.

With brighter cabinetry, modern quartz countertops, bold patterned flooring, improved storage, and a more thoughtful layout, the kitchen now feels open, functional, and uniquely tailored to the homeowners’ lifestyle.

Most importantly, the remodel eliminated temporary solutions like the roll-away storage cabinet by integrating storage directly into the kitchen’s design.
